APR is a family operated, non-profit, organization located in Pierce County, Washington. Our joint efforts of rescue of the Parrot extends well before our founding in 2012 as a registered charity organization. APR is volunteer-based and humbled by the mutual efforts of our partners and friends who share our mission. Our initial goal to rescue has been a natural progression into premium care practices, providing educational resources and networking with our peers for the good of the entire parrot owning community. We thank you for visiting our web page and invite you to join us on Facebook where you will find "Our Village" of friends and partners, all sharing the same passion and all seeking the same end result........healthy, happy parrots.
Our mission has evolved since establishment. In the beginning, our organization consisted of few feathered friends with the primary goal of finding them loving forever homes. Within a short time it became apparent the need of forever homes was overwhelming. Parrots were coming to us with evidence of neglect and abuse. Calls were coming in from agencies that were not prepared, nor willing, to care for these animals.
Finding forever homes was no longer the highest priority. For us, it still isn't. Too many questions arose over the process. Why so many? Why so many neglected and abused? The sick. The thrown away. How can this happen?
While seeking answers to these questions, our mission became clear: education on behavior and care has become among our highest priority. The need or desire to re-home is often due to lack of patience and knowledge to understand the needs of your companion.
The mission of APR founders is:
~To inform and educate on proper nutrition, enrichment, overall care and behavior for all species of parrot.
~To provide a reliable network for reference on behavior, diet and safety.
~To remove birds from less than satisfactory living conditions and provide an adjustment period along with medical assessment/care, trust restoration, behavioral correction and nutritional adjustment.
~To place healthy parrots in stable, forever homes and within an environment most suitable for each bird.
~To assist in every way possible other rescues and sanctuaries that share our mission.
